Enveloppes de grains d’orge

Feed material Cereals Authorised in animal feed (EU)

Description

What it is. Co-product of barley milling obtained by dry milling, sieving and dehulling of barley grains. It is composed mainly of the outer layers of the grain, giving it a fibrous character.

What it is for. These hulls are generally used as a source of crude fibre in diets for several species. They may be used to adjust the structural fibre content of feeds or to modulate digestive transit. Use is generally considered for growing or adult animals, depending on the targeted fibre level in the ration.

Points to watch. Crude fibre content must be declared, as well as crude protein if it exceeds 10%. Composition can vary depending on the milling process and the proportion of residual starchy endosperm, which should be checked with the supplier.
