Description
What it is. Microbial preparation based on the lactic acid bacterium Lentilactobacillus buchneri (formerly Lactobacillus buchneri) NCIMB 30139, presented in solid form. The additive contains at least 5 × 10^10 CFU/g and belongs to the functional group of silage additives.
What it is for. This additive is intended for incorporation into fresh material that is easy to ensile, for all animal species. It is generally used to promote controlled fermentation of forage and contribute to the aerobic stability of silage. A related EFSA study illustrates this use, without setting a specific level of use.
Points to watch. The EU authorisation of this additive (number 1k20734) has been withdrawn, with a transitional measure allowing the marketing and use of products manufactured and labelled before 16 July 2025, until existing stocks are exhausted. Storage conditions must be specified in the instructions for use of the additive and premixtures; the additive is also considered to require precautions for user safety.
